Ultraviolet Photography

I am new to UltraViolet imaging and have only just managed to lay hands on a B+W UV 340nm cut pass filter. Being a complete newbie I didn't even know what to expect

My first attempt. The first shot is for reference - it's shot on my modified Fuji - no filters used.

I've had to adjust the image to get back to a natural daylight image. The composition is a little lacklustre but as soon as I saw some sunlight I grabbed the camera and ran into the garden - you have to take any oportunity you can in February.

Note that there is a tough of frost on the grass.

I did a custom white balance from the grass (I've read this is a good technique in infra red so I thought I would try the same method with UV) - So far a reasonable image with subtle hints of colour, less monochromatic than my experiences with IR.

The same image with a quick auto level in Photoshop - I'm quite pleased with this as a first try. I did notice that the exposures are a couple of stops longer than with IR.

Perhaps this is because I live in the North of England - Sunshine and blue sky is a rarity up here in winter (and summer usually ! ! LoL) -

For Comparison I tried the same shot with my cheap IR filter.

This was taken the same custom white balance as the UV shots still giving a respectable image but not much colour.

Again the same image in IR but with a 'sunny day' white balance. Giving more colour information.
